Sister Laila Maarouf

Bio Details

Sr. Laila Maarouf holds an M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta, but her real forte is in teaching Arabic Language and Qur’an to all ages and ethnicities. 

Sr. Laila began her teaching career with the University of Alexandria, Egypt where she was a Lecturer in the Department of Physics and Mathematics in the early 1980’s. Prior to that she held a teaching/research assistant position with the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alberta in Edmonton and at the University of Alexandria, Egypt.

Since migrating to Canada in the early 1970’s, Sr. Laila Maarouf has held various teaching, counseling, lecturing and volunteer positions with a large number of institutions in Alberta and Ontario. For the past three decades, Sr. Laila Maarouf has served as an Arabic Language Instructor with various District School Boards, Including Toronto, Peel Mississauga and North York School Boards.

She is currently the Senior Teacher with the IIT Academy, and an Arabic Language and Qur’anic Studies Instructor with the Islamic Institute of Toronto’s Arabic and Islamic Studies program. 

Sr. Laila has also held various volunteer positions, including several teaching and classroom assistant positions with Ontario Public Schools. She also served as the Canadian Women’ s Representative with the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA).
